I’ve written a bit about this before, but I decided to start my water challenge Sunday. Yesterday my head hurt too much to try to write about it (no coffee, and I’m an addict), but I’m feeling better today. The challenge is pretty simple — for the next two weeks I’m going to drink nothing but tap water and I will donate the money I would have spent on coffee, tea, beer, wine, or scotch to The Water Project, a group dedicated to creating access to clean drinking water to Africa. A little money goes quite a long way when it comes to these donations:
- $10 = 1 persons’s access to water
- $50 = 1 family’s water needs
- $500 = Repair a Well
- $3,500 = Dig a New Well
You can see past projects that they’ve worked like the Cameroon Biosand Filter and see the impact they’ve had on their communities. Right now I’m in my caffeine detox phase but once the headaches are gone, it should be pretty easy. I spend way too much on coffee as is, so I’m hoping to do my part to help dig wells across Africa and give back a little bit. All of us live pretty charmed lives and it’s good to remember that, and offer whatever help we can give to others.
