One for discussion – taking a shot. 2

$2/4 for the Road to Robusto project (shot taking FTW!).

MP, who I feel has been opening a bit lightly in the past few hands, opens. He’s MP or the equivalent of UTG 5-handed, I guess, but I 3bet 66 anyway. I think the decision is actually pretty close here. Anyway, one of the blinds calls a bunch of bets, and the opener calls. Flop Q78 and it’s checked to me and I go ahead and fire a shell. Both players call.

The turn is the 6h, putting two hearts on board, and I get checkraised by BB who has $13 left in his stack. I spend a while talking to the video and start to time out but decide it’s probably best to just call and raise any boardpairing river, instead of gassing it now. Capiche?

The river is an 8. He bets ($9 left), I raise, he 3bets ($1 left), and I 4bet his last $1 in.

I think there are two close decisions in the hand besides preflop. Any comments? The video should be up within the next day or so, so you’ll be able to hear my comments, but I feel like posting this one now. .

What a shocker – I can’t figure this out. . You said nothing but I’m going to guess at least bb is typical v agg 2/4 player; you also didn’t mention where we lost pfr; but I’m going to guess bb c-r pfrr with: . 1. TP/4-fl (A/KQ), which doesn’t seem unreasonable given board; . 2. 77/88 . 3. T9s is a stretch w/no bb info (and I wonder if bb might not have c-r flop, folding out pfr and trying to take it down on turn HU) . He started the hand light on chips but not so light that I think he’s just trying to get them all in (can’t know if he’s broke, a bad player letting himself get this low to begin with, or had trouble recharging). . So given all this I think you’re against a better hand. IMM this means your turn decision can’t be that close leaving only flop and rvr decisions. . But why you would check thru this flop I don’t know – so IMM flop can’t be one of your close decisions (my guess). . That only leaves me w/rvr – if he was TP/4-fl he isn’t betting like it now so I have to fall back to #2 and say his fh (or quads) is better than yours. So IMO too much hero action against a guy I’m going to guess is not trying to stack off w/inferior hand.

I didn’t have a read on him at the time. Based on the fact that he called 3 and then c/called the flop I considered him to likely be a fairly loose play and I certainly didn’t rule T9s out.
